Web 3.0 Dictionary

JavaScript

JavaScript is an interpreted language, as opposed to a compiled one. As a computer language, it first became available with the Netscape Navigator 2 Internet browser, and was known as LiveScript. Netscape took a corporate decision to change the name to JavaScript, after Java, the popular and upcoming programming language in those days.

Today, all the popular Internet browsers support JavaScript. For example, the ads showed on this page are syndicated by JavaScript from Google. If you can see the ads on the top and bottom of this page, you can be assured that your browser supports JavaScript.

JavaScript is one of the main ingredients of AJAX. AJAX is one of the main Web 2.0 technologies.

JavaScript files are stored as .js files, just like MS Word documents are stored as .doc files, and text files are stored as .txt files.
