Podcasting

Distributing audio and video content is known as podcasting. The term was coined by combining two terms, iPod and broadcasting. However, to download podcasts from the Internet, you don't need an expensive iPod. You can download audio podcasts to your favorite mp3 player. You can download it to your computer's hardrive from the Internet, and listen to it or view it on your computer.

Currently, podcasts enjoy two-fold advantages over radio and TV. I will use the audio example to illustrate the two advantages.

To listen to radio, you have to be in your car, or at home. Also, you have to listen to a radio program as it happens. In contrast, you can download your podcast to your computer / music player, and listen to it later at your convenience, which could be at your home, during your lunch break, or while waiting for your date in the restaurant. So you are not stuck in time. This is the first advantage.

.

The second advantage is that you can podcast yourself, and distribute your podcast to others over the Internet. If you always wanted to be behind a microphone and say something which you wanted the world to listen to, you can do so today by recording your own podcasts, and distributing / syndicating them using RSS - Really Simple Syndication.
